There are different types of electrical safety certificates, depending on the situation and purpose. 

Types of Electrical Safety Certificates 

1. Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR)

3. Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate (MEIWC) 

For small electrical works, such as adding a new socket or light switch. 
Confirms that the work complies with BS 7671 regulations. 
Ensures safe modifications to an existing installation.

Anyone making small electrical changes that don't require a full EIC. 

4. Landlord Electrical Safety Certificate (Also Known as EICR for Rentals) 

Legally required for rented properties in England since July 2020. 
Confirms that the electrical installation is safe for tenants. 
Must be renewed every 5 years (or sooner if recommended). 
Any C1 (Danger) or C2 (Potential Hazard) faults must be fixed within 28 days.

5. Part P Building Regulations Certificate 

Issued for electrical work done in special locations (e.g., bathrooms, kitchens, or outdoorinstallations).  
Confirms the work complies with UK Building Regulations. 
Required for certain electrical jobs, such as new circuits or consumer unit replacements. 
 
Who Needs It? 
 
Homeowners & contractors doing regulated electrical work in domestic properties.
