In Europe, the legislation allowed for appliance standardisation and for electricity to be generated and supplied from one country to another.

 

However, because the European market is far more extensive than our own, equipment on the continent was designed to operate most efficiently at 220 - 230v. Here in the UK, voltage can go as high as 253v.

WHAT IS VOLTAGE OPTIMISATION?

First of all, we'll briefly explain what voltage optimisation is. The concept of voltage optimisation is straightforward.

Generally, the power you receive from the National Grid is supplied at a much higher voltage than is necessary, thanks to ageing distribution networks. As a consequence, the majority of modern buildings are being provided with a higher voltage than they need.

Voltage optimisation regulates your power supply, through a voltage optimiser. This optimiser will balance the voltage supply you receive from the network, meaning you'll only use what you need.

Typically, the incoming voltage to most households can be anything between 216v - 252v. For most homes, it's around 240+. However, if you have a voltage optimiser installed, you can expect a steady 220v. Since most household appliances require around 220v to work efficiently, you could expect bills to be reduced by up to 20%.
